Wajima Lacquer Chashaku by Hirano Tozan
250,00€
A black Raku chawan, made in Kyoto and kept in its original tomobako.
Raku ware is among the most revered traditions of the Japanese tea ceremony. Each bowl is shaped by hand, without a wheel, and fired at a low temperature, a method passed down in Kyoto for generations and long associated with the way of tea. The matte, deep-black glaze is quiet and restrained, and its soft, rounded form sits warmly in the hands.
When whisked matcha is poured in, the vivid green stands out against the black glaze, and the bowl’s depth and calm presence come into view. A chawan that embodies the spirit of the tea ceremony. Its original tomobako, the wooden storage box, is included, which is also a mark of the piece’s provenance.
