A natsume 棗 is a small object, but within the tea gathering it carries the matcha — and with it, the anticipation of the bowl to come.

This Wajima lacquer natsume is finished with a vermilion ground and an ivy maki-e decoration. The movement of the ivy gives the surface a sense of quiet life, while the deep red lacquer brings warmth and presence to the tea setting. It measures 7.2 cm high and 6.8 cm in diameter.

The piece is in very good condition, and a tomobako is included. Made for matcha, kept with care, and ready to return to the tea room.
